Determine the packing accessories you will need: bubble wrap, tape, packing paper, drop cloths, mattress and furniture covers, dust covers, locks, and assorted size boxes from book to wardrobe size... a great choice of moving and packing supplies are available at U•Stor locations.
To maximize storage space use uniform size boxes.
Protect your fragile goods with packing (i.e., bubble wrap or packing paper) and place them near the top of your storage space.
Go easy on your back. Hold weight of all boxes under 30 pounds.
Heavy items such as books and tools should be packed in small boxes so they are easy to lift.
Store heaviest boxes on bottom. All boxes should be full before stacking, to avoid collapsing.
Clothing that ordinarily hangs in a closet should be packed in a wardrobe box.
Always use plenty of packing paper for dishes and glasses. Each item should be wrapped individually.
Always pack mirrors on edge, not lying flat. Protect them by packing individually with strong cardboard.
Always clean and thoroughly dry appliances before storing. Placing a receptacle of salt inside freezers and refrigerators will help absorb moisture.
Tape all appliance doors shut when moving. Wedge doors open in storage.
DO NOT STORE COMBUSTIBLES OR PERISHABLES! Such items include paint, cleaning fluids, gasoline, etc. Throw away anything that could possibly cause fire. Do not store food in open containers or any item which could attract rodents or pests. Why risk your possessions just to keep a few cents' worth of leftovers?
